Maroth Makes First Appearance of Spring Training

MARCH 10, 2008

SURPRISE, Ariz. - Left-handed Mike Maroth made his spring training debut with the Kansas City Royals, pitching on Sunday against the Texas Rangers in a seven-inning “B” game.

Maroth pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, working on a strict pitch count. He had been sidelined for the first 10 days of camp as a precaution after experiencing some tightness in his shoulder. He is expected to make his second appearance of spring training later this week.

Maroth, who signed with the Royals as a free agent in January, is competing for a spot in Kansas City’s starting rotation.
