About Mike

Mike is currently the
2012 American League Champion Detroit Tigers Class A Lakeland Pitching Coach.
He capped off his first year coaching by helping lead the Flying Tigers to the
2012 Florida State League Championship.

Mike’s career as a baseball player spans twenty-eight years, beginning in little league and ending as a veteran starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 1998 draft out of the University of Central Florida. Mike spent nearly six seasons in the league tallying 50 wins as a starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and credit much of his ability to succeed to his work ethic and preparation during the season and more importantly, during the off-season. Working with only average velocity demanded he mastered changing speeds and locations. His strategy was to use all his pitches, rather than relying on just one to be successful.

My goal is to use the knowledge, skills, and experiences I have acquired over my many years in baseball to work along side young players and parents and to assist them in reaching their maximum potential on and off the field. This includes creating a positive attitude, building confidence, and developing good sportsmanship. Since many great coaches, teammates, and mentors influenced me, I now want to pay it forward to the young players of the next generation.
